A Success Story for the “Radar Aden” Platform
From Field Monitoring to Institutional Response
In continuation of the “Radar Aden” platform’s approach of converting field-assessment data into tangible institutional responses that strengthen public policy and protect the rights of citizens and their health security, we are proud to document two qualitative achievements that embody the impact of what the platform monitored and documented in its previous editions, and the transition from the stage of monitoring to the stage of institutional action:
1. Setting Justice in Motion in the “Extortion Unit” File
In its fourth edition, the platform had addressed the file of what became known as the “Extortion Unit,” which was run under a pseudonym (“Saqr Aden”), and documented the complaints of a number of affected women who had fallen victim to extortion at the hands of those running it, along with the accompanying deep crisis of trust in the security system.
In light of the indicators raised by the report, and the broad community discussion and public-opinion pressure the file generated to demand justice and uncover the facts, the Public Prosecution ordered the arrest of those involved in the case and their referral for investigation.
This development represents an important step toward redressing victims and holding perpetrators accountable, and toward restoring the community’s trust – particularly that of women – in the value of reporting and resorting to the law.
2. Intensifying Oversight of Goods of Unknown Origin
The platform had also monitored and documented – particularly in its third edition – a dangerous influx of expired products and goods sold openly in the markets, alongside what volunteers monitored of Israeli-origin canned goods and foreign products of unknown source, amid a marked weakness in oversight campaigns.
At that time, the platform called in its response roadmap for opening an urgent investigation and tightening oversight to protect consumers’ health security. In response, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued its directives to intensify field visits and inspection and examination campaigns of warehouses and shops to seize these goods and withdraw them from the markets.
This move reflects a transition from the stage of monitoring to that of field regulatory action that safeguards citizens’ health and the city’s food security.
These two achievements embody the true value of community assessment as a tool of empowerment and a close link between the pulse of the street and decision-makers; documented and neutral field monitoring, when coupled with responsible community discussion, turns into a real lever for law enforcement, consumer protection, and the restoration of trust between the citizen and the state. The platform affirms its continued performance of this role with professionalism and neutrality, in the service of the public interest without bias.
