Privacy Notice
This notice explains what information the Radar Aden website collects from visitors, how we use it, and the choices you have. Radar Aden is a community-monitoring initiative of the National Network for Community and Youth Initiatives (NNCYI).
1 Who we are
“Radar Aden” (رادار عدن) is a qualitative community-assessment and early-warning platform operated by the Youth Committees of the National Network for Community and Youth Initiatives (NNCYI), based in Aden, Yemen. This notice applies to the website at radaraden.org and its Arabic and English pages.
If you have any questions about this notice or your information, you can reach us using the details in section 11.
2 Information we collect
Information you give us
- Comments. When you leave a comment on the site, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, the content of your comment, and the date and time it was submitted. Your email address may be shared with the Gravatar service to check whether you have a public profile picture (see section 4).
- Contact and correspondence. If you contact us by email, phone, or any contact form, we receive the information you choose to send — such as your name, contact details, and the content of your message.
Information collected automatically
- Technical and usage data. Like most websites, our hosting and analytics tools may record your IP address, browser type and version, device and operating system, the pages you view, the page that referred you, and the date and time of your visit.
- Cookies. The site uses a small number of cookies (see section 3).
Radar Aden also gathers field information about public services, security and community conditions through volunteers using separate electronic forms. That programme data concerns community-level conditions and is verified and aggregated for our published reports; it is handled under our reporting methodology rather than through this website. Questions about that data can be sent to us directly.
3 Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them to:
- remember the name, email and website you enter when commenting, so you don’t have to type them again;
- keep the site working correctly and measure general, non-identifying usage (for example, visit statistics).
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so may mean some features — such as the comment form remembering your details — no longer work as expected.
4 Third-party services
We rely on a few trusted services to run the site. These providers process limited data on our behalf:
- Social media. Our pages link to our profiles on Facebook. If you click through, those platforms collect data under their own privacy policies. We do not control those policies.
- WordPress & Jetpack (Automattic Inc.). The site runs on WordPress and uses Jetpack for comments, image delivery, and basic visit statistics. To deliver images quickly and to provide these features, your IP address and request details are processed by Automattic’s servers.
- Gravatar. When you comment, an anonymised (hashed) version of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to display a profile picture if you have one. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available on its website.
- Google Analytics / other tools.
5 How we use your information
- To publish and manage comments and discussion on the site.
- To respond to your messages and enquiries.
- To operate, secure, and improve the website and understand how it is used.
- To prevent spam, abuse, and fraudulent or unlawful activity.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for purposes unrelated to those described above.
6 How we share information
We share personal information only in these limited situations:
- with the service providers listed in section 4, strictly to operate the site;
- where required by applicable law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our volunteers, our users, or the public;
- in anonymised or aggregated form that cannot reasonably identify you.
7 How long we keep information
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically, unless you ask us to remove them. Messages you send us are kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and our records. We delete or anonymise information when it is no longer needed for the purposes above.
8 Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. No website or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
9 Children’s privacy
This website is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.
10 Your choices and rights
You may, at any time:
- ask us what personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct or delete your information, including comments you have left;
- withdraw consent or ask us to stop contacting you;
- control cookies through your browser settings.
To make any of these requests, contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your local data-protection laws.
